About Merit

The word merit, of course, means good - like a merit badge, or an idea that has merit. Merit is also a woman and an idea.

Merit - A Good Idea

Merit Telecom is a nonprofit corporation that provides telephone and internet services to residential & business customers, and fundraising services for nonprofits. We are the first and only nonprofit telecommunications carrier in America. We donate from 2% to 8% of our gross revenue each year.

Big or small, local or national, you choose a nonprofit or charity that means something to you. You have a voice, a choice, and in these challenging times, you can make a difference like never before.

Your calls, internet usage, and shopping become a real-time donation. And it adds up! For every 100 members that use Merit Telecom, the nonprofit or charity will typically receive more than $10,000 a year. Grassroots donations like yours are the heart and soul of a nonprofit.

Merit - The Woman

We honor the spirit of Merit Kimball. Merit worked tirelessly for health care reform in the United States - ensuring that quality health care is available to anyone that needs it. Merit died of breast cancer at the too-young age of 39, after a three year struggle to beat it.

In 1996, shortly before her death, she told her story and introduced President Clinton at the signing of the Health Care Reform Act. It was a peak moment for her. She was a remarkable woman, working for the public good.

"Corporate executives must recognize there is no contradiction between a soft heart and a hard head. Of course, they have responsibilities to stockholders, but they also have responsibilities to their employees, their customers, and to society as a whole."
